James Dempsey is a former journalist and currently a university instructor of writing and English literature. He has won awards from the Associated Press and United Press International, and is the author of the novel Murphy's American Dream, a collection of verse, The Court Poetry of Geoffrey Chaucer: A Facing-page Translation in Modern English, and a forthcoming biography, The Tortured Life of Scofield Thayer. His current research focuses on Modernism and particularly on The Dial of the 1920s, a magazine that gave a forum to Modernist writers, artists, and critics. He teaches at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts, and lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Gail.
